What`s New On The Ranch

On the road again for 2012...

Lauren recently passed the rigorous screening to become an Associate Certified Horse Behavior Consultant
with the IAABC - International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants. She
now travels between Pemberton and the Fraser Valley to teach clinics and
horsemanship
lessons, and to offer behavioral consultations and problem behavior resolution.
If you
are interested in these services in your area, or anywhere in between

contact Lauren.

Lauren, Baron (Friesian) and Wee Flynn (Gypsy Drum horse).
Wee Flynn was here for Lauren's Coltergarten program last fall,
where he honed his leading skills, and discarded his human-dragging
skills. Check out Wee Flynn here, learning how to lead at liberty.
Not too bad for a 2-year-old's first attempt!

Upcoming Events

May 26, 2012 - Yoga with Horses, with the lovely and talented Linda Guanti

Join us here at Rojo Pez Ranch for a half-day workshop with yoga instructor, Linda Guanti. Yes, it's true! You can enjoy these two very special things together. Both you and your horse will benefit, and if you don't have a horse, or can't bring your own, one of the steady Rojo Pez horses would be happy to fill in.
Visit Yoga with Horses for more information.

Clinics and Presentations

In addition to clinics, lessons, and behavioral consultations, Lauren also offers educational presentations. These are a great way to gain knowledge, and can be presented to your local horse club or group - with no horses required! Examples of past talks and clinics are below. Please
contact us for more information on any of these events:

So You Want to Buy a Horse - An Educational Presentation

Are you about to pursue a lifelong dream of owning your first horse? Are you a non-horsey parent looking to buy a horse for your horsey child? Or have you made mistakes when buying horses in the past? Combining her knowledge as a horsewoman, with years of experience as an adoption match-maker at animal shelters, Lauren presents an enlightening presentation to set you up for a successful equine partnership.

Horse Behavior 101 - An Educational Presentation

Why does the horse behave the way he does? How does he perceive the world? How do his instincts differ than ours? Come out for an informative presentation on learning “who” the horse really is, why he does what he does, and how understanding and respecting his nature can lead to fewer problems in training and handling.

Understanding the Science of Training and Learning Theory - An Educational Presentation

All animals, humans included, respond to the same fundamental principles of training and learning theory.  Are you interested in knowing more about the science behind humane horse training? Would you like to be able to assess methods that are currently used in horse training? Come out for an in-depth presentation that will demystify "horse whispering" and explain the science behind any training technique.

Horsemanship 101 - A mini-clinic once a week for four consecutive weeks

Whether you are an experienced competitor, or are new to horses, Horsemanship 101 introduces the fine art, and behavioral science, of understanding and successfully working with horses. A good horseman learns how to change their approach to suit the horse, rather than expecting the horse to change his.  Working from this mindset will lead to greater understanding, safety and communication between horses and people.

The goal of this clinic is to give you a solid foundation of knowledge upon which any discipline can be built. You will learn the basics of horse behaviour and learning/training theory, and will start to develop your feel, timing and balance when working with horses. All
classes are groundwork only. Progressive homework is given for students to practice between weekly sessions. Groups are small and supportive, and we will meet once a week for a 3-hour mini-clinic, for 4 consecutive weeks.

Horsemanship 201 - A mini-clinic once a week for four consecutive weeks

Building on the skills you learned in Horsemanship 101, Horsemanship 201 will focus on refining your feel, timing and balance while developing your horses's curiosity and confidence. We will also start to learn basic behavioral modification techniques to deal with many common behavioral problems.

Take it Outside! - A mini-clinic once a week for four consecutive weeks

Trail riding is an excellent opportunity to develop your horse, both physically and emotionally. Learn how to safely introduce trail riding into the relationship with your horse. Learn why your horse may not want to leave the property, how to develop a "herd of two" with your horse, how to deal with common problems associated with trail riding and much more!

I Love Trailer Loading - A mini-clinic once a week for four consecutive weeks

Loading and trailering your horse CAN be a mutually beneficial experience...if you understand how to teach your horse to load and travel, confidently and safely. Looking for trailer loading inspiration? Check out Lauren and her horse Cord, loading up from a different location. Trailer loading, from on top of the trailer

Custom Clinics and Educational Presentations

Clinics can also be tailor made for specific issues or topics that groups may want to cover. We welcome your ideas! Please contact Lauren for more information
